How To Veneer MDF Speakers

In this video I show you how to apply a wood veneer to MDF speakers.

In my previous post I built a parts-Express speaker kit and now it is time to make the speakers look as good as they sound.

I picked up some walnut veneer from my local hardwood dealer and got to work covering the speakers.

Prep work is the name of the game when it comes to veneering speakers, so I made sure to fill in any cracks and holes with Bondo, and sanded any uneven surfaces smooth.

Next it came time to cover the speaker and veneer in two coats of contact cement and stick the pieces together. Lastly I just had to trim the veneer flush to the speaker with a utility knife and then sand the whole speaker and apply a wood finish.

I went with boiled linseed oil followed by wipe on polyurethane but any wood finish will do. For more information check out the video…
